Senior Living Reborn
On March
22, 2208, the Akron Beacon Journal published
an article about Sumner on Ridgewood entitled
"Senior Living Reborn." The subhead of the article,
"Aging baby boomers push retirement communities to take on
new look with lots of amenities, activities," says exactly
what we did when designing and building our beautiful
campus. Our residents agree! Read the article by clicking on
the link above, or just
ask Sumner on Ridgewood resident Phyllis Berry who was
featured.

Sumner on Ridgewood Selects Preferred
Provider for Home Care Services
Visiting Nurse Service and Affiliates
(VNSA) has been selected by Sumner on Ridgewood to be its
preferred provider for home care services. VNSA, in its 60th
year of offering care, was selected based on reputation for
quality service and longevity in the community. The mission
of VNSA is to improve the health and lives of our patients
and community. VNSA serves clients in Medina, Portage,
Stark, Summit, Wayne and surrounding counties, and is a
member of the Akron General Health System.
VNSA will offer all of its service
lines to Sumner on Ridgewood, including skilled nursing
care, medical equipment and supplies, personal care
services, hospice and palliative care, and infusion
therapies. Under a preferred provider agreement, residents
still have a choice of providers, but Sumner will be
recommending VNSA to our residents and others.

Sumner Quilt Raffle Is a Huge Success
Due to Independent Living resident Jo
Fishburn’s generosity, Sumner on Ridgewood was able to raise
ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS for our Landscaping Committee. We
actually sold $988 dollars worth of tickets, and Independent
Living resident Phyllis Berry generously rounded the total
up to an even $1,000.
The drawing was held in conjunction
with the Harmonica Hotshots concert on Saturday evening,
September 8. Al Smith from the Hotshots was solicited to
draw the winning ticket.
The quilt was won by Jo’s nephew, Dean
Jackson. So, Jo not only made the quilt, she sold the
winning ticket! We’d like to thank a number of people
besides Jo who really excelled at ticket sales. Corrie
Sharpe, Terrace Room manager was the high ticket seller from
the staff. Louise Sumner Board member Shirley Wagner and
president Gretchen Laatsch also worked very hard and turned
in lots of sales. Sumner on Ridgewood Board of Directors
member Dr. David Shaffer was the high seller from the Board.
We’d also like to thank Margo Parker for her assistance with
printing the tickets as well as Verona Evans and the
concierge staff for selling tickets at the front desk.

Resident Walter Stiegele Turns 100!
Not many of us reach this goal.
Sumner on Ridgewood Independent
Living resident Walter Stiegele turned 100 on May 1, 2007. Our local daily
newspaper, the Beacon Journal, thought this was something worth noting to
all of its readers. Beacon Journal columnist Jewel Cardwell interviewed
Walter and his wife Florence, and wrote
"Life is still good
after a century."
Sumner on Ridgewood felt that
this was worth a real celebration, too! Together with Florence and Walter's
children, we surprised Walter with a
party on his special day.

centenarian's active life? Take a look at this article,
"Retiree
pursues golf, art, life with passion," in our weekly newspaper, the
West Side Leader, when Walter was only 99!
